Session 2: The John Ferraro Building in L.A. – a Look at One of the World’s First LEED Zero Buildings
Date & Time
Wednesday, April 27, 2022, 9:50 AM - 10:50 AM
Description
Hear about how the John Ferraro Building – headquarters for the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power – has become one of only 10 buildings worldwide to achieve LEED Zero.  This is especially impressive in view of the fact that the 17-story, all-electric building was initially constructed in 1965.  Beginning in 2013, a series of intensive energy-efficiency measures were put into place, including lighting retrofits, chiller upgrades, fan systems upgrades, and more -- earning the building LEED EBOM in 2015 and LEED Gold in 2016.  In 2019, the building operated with net zero carbon emissions through use of partial offsets, and achieved the coveted LEED Zero designation. The speaker will describe these accomplishments and efforts to transform this mid-century icon to a 21st century green building. Gain valuable ideas you can apply at your own facility.
